Black Slate, River Rock, and Paver Work in Centerville

This Centerville property had solid bones - a nice pergola, clean siding, good bones all around. What it needed was some finishing work to tie everything together. That's exactly what we came in to do.

We laid fresh black slate along the patio edge and around the building foundation to clean up those transition zones between structure and lawn. That dark angular stone creates a sharp contrast against the lighter concrete and the grey exterior - it just pops. On the other side of the property, we used river rock to frame out the foundation beds and ring a large spruce tree in the front yard. River rock is one of those materials that looks great and basically takes care of itself. No mulch to refresh every year. No weeds pushing through constantly.

We also extended the paver patio to give the outdoor entertaining space a little more room. The pergola area already had seating and a grill setup, so it made sense to expand the footprint and make that whole zone more functional. A small paver extension goes a long way when the rest of the space is already built out.

The arborvitae planted along the back of the outbuilding add a privacy element and break up what would otherwise be a flat wall of dark siding. Paired with the river rock bed at the base, that side of the property now looks intentional instead of unfinished. It's the kind of detail that makes the whole yard read as put-together.

Stone work like this is one of the best low-upkeep upgrades you can make to an outdoor space.
