Most people think of a retaining wall as purely functional - something to stop erosion or hold back a slope. And yes, it does that. But the right wall design can completely change the way your yard looks and feels. That's something a lot of homeowners don't realize until they see the options side by side.
There are four styles we work with most often, and each one serves a different purpose. A straight wall gives you that clean, modern edge - sharp lines, a polished finish, great for contemporary homes. A terraced wall adds layers and depth, which works really well when you've got a taller grade change and want to break it up visually instead of stacking one tall wall. Both of those are built using Keystone Compac III block in Sterling Gray - a solid, versatile material that holds up well and looks sharp against landscaping.
For yards that feel a little more organic or relaxed, a curved wall is hard to beat. It flows naturally with the landscape and softens the whole look of the bed. Then there's the stepped wall - that's the one we recommend when you've got real elevation changes to work with. It handles grade transitions cleanly and integrates really well with steps built right into the structure. The curved and stepped styles use Belgard Diamond block, which gives you a slightly different texture and profile than the Keystone line.
The block you choose, the style you go with, the way it ties into your existing landscaping - all of it matters. That's why we don't just show up and start stacking block. We talk through what you're working with, what you want it to do, and what's going to look right for your specific property. If you're planning something in Milford, we'd be glad to walk you through it.
